Producers persuaded both the American and US governments

Story

Amid an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, lands in a high-profile job she is ill-suited for, with tectonic effects on her marriage and political future. British governments allowed them to use real-life locations as filming locations for the series, including the fledgling American embassy (in Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.

The only unavailable location was Winfield House, the actual residence of the American ambassador

Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Office office, an honor rarely bestowed on a film or film production, especially an American one. Although it is accurately described as being the largest residential property (11 acres) in London next to Buckingham Palace, producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes.

I have to admit I wasn’t planning on watching The Diplomat but after hearing so many great things about it and reading all the great reviews I thought I’d give it a try. I’m so glad I did because it was great.

I was hooked from the first episode

I’m actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Even though Keri Russell was great in The Americans I thought this was more about the writing than her acting so I wasn’t really sure if she and Rufus Sewell could carry a series as leads but they definitely do, they’re both fantastic here.

I could definitely see this series winning some awards

The chemistry between these two is what makes this show so good.
