Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him on the role
When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford to appear on the show, Segel said that Goldstein initially wanted a «Harrison Ford type» and would audition people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that he had to at least bring it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was being brought on board, generating interest from other top actors.
I’ve seen the first two episodes and I find them compelling
Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was thrilled nonetheless. Part of the reason is that I found there to be some reality based on a therapist who needs therapy and is willing to step in front of his patients to unexpectedly overcome his own issues.
The show isn’t for everyone
I also respect the way he’s presented – he’s not doing something that other therapists are supposed to be doing, and that’s pretty clear. He hasn’t gotten into the stupid situations of other shows like Loot, but it’s still early in the series and I’ll keep watching.
